My hairdresser has told me I have lost more than 1/3 of my hair. I have super natural thick curly hair but for her to notice that it's pretty bad. My last appointment she said that for the first time she had trouble combing out the ends! I have been working on growing it long so have not been going to her just rarely to have her straighten it with a flat iron. I've been wearing it curly. I told my psychiatrist about it but he did nothing. I am on 50mg topiramate 2x a day and 250 mg Divalproex in the morning and 500 at night. Both drugs are known to cause hair loss. As well topirimate can cause one who is on birth control pills to get pregnant & or cause break through bleeding!! I'm 48!! I don't need a pregnancy, plus if you get pregnant the baby could have a cleft palate! Why don't these bastards tell us that before? He put me on lamotrigine before and I broke out in a rash all over my body and had palipatations. Geeze, none of these drugs are working anyway. I'm bipolar, depressed and nothing is working. I just want them to stop it all they're messing up my liver and pancreas. We have to advocates for out own bodys!!
Mine has also become more brittle and dry in the past few years, but I have no problems with loss. I also have been taking vitamin D as a supplement, but haven't noticed a change in this area with the hair.
Take care.
I've been forgetting to take my D! Mine tested <4 very low. I have been feeling sooo awful.
Thanks for the reminder.
My Rheumy tested me for Vit.D deficiency and I was very low. After taking the D and getting my levels up, my hair began to grow back in. It was amazing. I still lose it on and off, which just comes with the disease, but I have more to lose and it's pretty think when it comes back in.
Vit. D also made many other things better for me too. It helped with pain level in general, with energy and with digestion. Glad I got tested! I am an advocate now.
