just diagnosed yesterday

Hello community

I was just diagnosed yesterday with fibromyalgia, I really didn't expect that diagnoses at all.
I started having alot of different problems since I had a hernia repair in feb this year. At first they
where tossing around the thought of ms...but never did any real blood work so I found this great rheumatologist,
she was great and x-rayed me from head to toe and took about 10 viles of blood. She touched an area around my
upper hip and OH MY GOODNESS I jumped and screamed it was so painful, she told me she bearly applied pressure.
She said that my fibro was a underlying diagnoses she believes I my have lupus as well. she put me on prednisone, cymbalta, ambien. I have to go for a sleep study and a upper emg and nerve conduction...I really dread that.
So I told my husband and he just looked at me no questions no nothing. alot of support he will be. What can I do to make him understand?

I'm sorry to hear about your dx hon.  I'll pray that you do not have lupus and just have the fibro (which is bad enough to deal with).  Good luck on your tests and hope they all go well.

It's difficult to have loved ones understand fibro...most docs don't understand it themselves.  We look fine on the outside so we must be fine right?  There are some good videos on YouTube about fibromyalgia.  Also, you could print out some info. about fibro. and let him read it.  Allow him to ask questions and you would benefit by learning all that you can about the condition in order to have factual answers.  I don't think it's as important to have him understand, than it is to have him be supportive of your pain and the days you don't feel up to par.

God bless and best wishes.

Fibromyalgia is just a group of symptoms, not a disease.  It sounds like she thinks you may have a disease process causing the fibro.  I hope not but it sounds like she will get to the bottom of it.

As for your husband, I don't think they really ever understand.  Maybe others will give you their experiences. I have found for me it's better to say as little about how I feel to him as possible.  It stresses him out.
