substance p

Substance P- nerve chemical signal.  How is this being researched for treatment of fibromyalgia?  Any other new insights- lyrica has severe adverse side effects( no sleeping for days) and neuontin is zombie land.

I've been on lyrica for over a year now.  I did have to lower the doseage .. because it raised my blood sugar.  But I have a happy balance and it really does seem to help me with the pain and stinging sensations.  I do have to take pain med to get to sleep .. but it's worth it to me.  I haven't heard anything about Substance P.  Good luck!

Do you get stinging/burning sensations as part of the fibro? I haven't heard of that before. I have had a burning sensation on and off for the past week or so; haven't been to doctor yet but have an appt. later this week. Some people think it is related to back problems; but my back (sciatica?) problem is on the right side and it's my left leg that is having these unusual sensations.
Never heard of Lyrica. What is it for? does it cause insomnia?
thanks

Yes, I get stinging /burning sensations.. mostly in my feet and sometimes very sharp stabbing pains.  I have also had back surgery.. about 4 years ago.  I really haven't had any problems with my back since.  The fibromyalgia started about 2 years ago.  I don't think the two are related since there is such a time difference.  Your problem could be your sciatica. ... When I hurt my back, i was trying to keep my elderly father from falling and I dislocated a disc.  By that same night I had numbness in my left foot like it was asleep and then my whole leg lost all feeling and I wasn't able to walk.  I had to have emergency surgery.  The Dr. did have to cut through the dura sac to save my nerves.. I was very close to severing them with the slipped disc. The Dr. did mention once that with fibro you would have pain in both feet/legs and not just one.
I have been on lyrica for awhile now.  It is similar to neurontin and works on the nerve impulse.  It is supposed to help with all the stinging/pain and really has seemed to help me quite a bit.  I haven't had any major sleep problems.. I do take 2 xanex and a tylox at bed time and that seems to really help me sleep really well.  Hope I helped with some of your answers.. Good Luck!

I don't have the answer, but I believe I do who does. RED LABS USA has a lab test to diagnose fibro & CFS. It is still in the research phase, but I do know that their lab test for fibro has to do with this susbstance P, which is an 11-amino acid neuropeptide. If I remember right, RED LABS USA also suggests treatment plans for their patients' who test positive. Their phone number is (775) 351-1890. They also have an e-mail address listed on their website.
