Ankle Sprain

Ankle Sprain

I fell down some stairs about 2 months ago. I was told that I have a sprained ankle and midfoot sprain. My doctor said that I did not have a fracture but that the ATFL was most likely torn. I've been compressing the injury, writing the alphabet and I am still applying ice to it. The pain decreased a great deal. I just started going back to work again (I am on my feet for at least 7 hours straight with plenty of walking and some heavy lifting) and the pain had gotten nearly unbearable. I can't jump and can't even tippy toe. I walk slower and slower with more of a limp. How much longer should I expect for healing? If there anything else I can do for healing? I'll do anything. I can't afford to miss anymore work due to this. Please help. Any advice is appreciated.

get an MRI to rule out major tears or defects which would need surgical correction.
i would wear an ankle brace for support.  i like the " DonJoy velocity" ankle brace.
physcial therapy involving e-stim, ultrasound, and strengthening exercises help too.
i would ask for a prescription for an strong anti-inflammatory like Diclofenac (make sure it doesn't interfere w/ your current meds or your system).
