Calcaneal Bursitis in the heel

Calcaneal Bursitis in the heel

I've had Calcaneal Bursitis in my heel for about a year now. They finally sent me to a podiatrist a few months ago, after x-raying my heel and seeing a bone spur. The podiatrist diagnosed the Calcaneal Bursitis after looking at me. My heel was so tender that I about shot threw the roof when he pressed gently on it. He gave me a steroid shot (which hurt like the dickens!) and sent me a referral to physical therapy. I've now been going to physical therapy for almost 3 months. They stimulate the nerves, do massage, exercises and ice pack with a slow drip steroid medicine going into my heel. I see little to no improvement and they said I should see improvement after three months. I'm wearing heel inserts, have good quality shoes and am going to physical therapy every week. What else can be done? And why is it not healing after all this time? Should something different be tried? I'm just so tired of this. I can't even walk very well because it hurts most of the time. I'm taking anti-inflammatory meds constantly. I just want this inflammation gone so I can live a normal life. What else can I try?

an achimed brace and heel lifts sometimes do wonders.  also, being placed in a removable cast can take the strain off the area and immobilize the achilles tendon so it doesn't pull at the tender area.
if the pain persists, you will need to surgically have this corrected.  i don't recommend any more cortisone injections in the heel

Thank you for answering, doctor. I did actually go get another cortisone shot. It was pretty tender for several days but seems a bit better now? We'll see how it goes. Can I ask why you don't recommend anymore cortisone shots?

I will consider what you've said and continue going to PT. Thanks again!
