Can these cause nail fungus? What gives?

Hello -
I just had a few questions regarding nail fungus. I hope someone can help me!!!
Everyone talks about how artificial nails can cause nail fungus. What about the ones from the drugstore that you glue on yourself?
Also, I have heard that nail polish can cause fungus as well. Is this true?
What are the chances of getting a nail fungus by wearing nail polish on your natural nails?
Are you more likely to get a fungus by wearing artificial nails or by wearing nail polish on natural nails?
Thanks!!!

Hi Doctor,
I got an appointment with a podiatrist and asked him his opinion on nail polish. He said that the reason why nail polish is a 'no-no' is that it traps moisture under the nail and can cause fungus!!!
Yuck~!

fungus lives naturally all over our body and thrives in moist, warm, and dark envrionments.  once you colonize enough fungus, you end up with a fungal infection.
if you wear artificial nails (whether drug store or acrylic), you create a condition that would allow fungus to populate and thrive.
wearing nail polish prevents you from seeing the nail.  if you get an infection, you may not know about it until weeks later...preventing you from cleaning and brushing the nail.
nail polish alone does not cause fungus infections
