Flesh around nail

One of my nails got ingrown. After a while, the condition cleared, but some proud flesh left on the side where the nail was ingrown. It doesn't hurt, doesn't bleed, isn't red or anything, it just isn't aesthetic and it has a tiny black dot on it.
How can it be removed?

it can be cut and cauterized in the office.  however, if you give it time, it will go away as long as the nail is not penetrating it.
