Retro Calcaneal Bursitis

Hi, I am a 17 year old female with posterior heel pain. The first podiatrist I saw told me that I had Haglunds Deformity, and that nothing but surgery could be done to improve my situation. My second doctor said that the bone wasn't protruding much and that "bursitis" would be a better term. I have been icing 3 times a day for two weeks and going to physical therapy twice a week for two weeks. Nothing is really helping though. Any advice? Will it get better over time? I also have slightly flat feet that may cause the problem. My feet are fine when I wear flip flops or backless shoes, but the moment I try to wear tennis shoes of flats I have sharp pain.

an ankle brace called an Achimed helps.  it is like a slip on brace with gel pouches that help embrace and support the tendon at this area.
wearing a heel lift in the shoe can help decrease the stretch of the tendon and nsaids can also help alleviate pain.  lastly, physical therapy involving iontophoresis can help too.  lastly, orthotics can help realign the foot and place less strain on the achilles tendon.
if nothing seems to improve the pain, i would recommend surgery.
