Sesamoiditis--anybody using orthotics? Results?

After having ball of foot pain in my right foot since last November, I was checked out by my orthopaedist and had an MRI, diagnosis of sesamoiditis. I'm not an athletic person kicking a ball or wearing high heels much at all, so I was surprised by the diagnosis. At this point, my orthopaedist has me using orthotics to alleviate the pressure. So far, after a week, I'm not noticing much of a difference. I realize this might take time to have the desired effect, but has anybody else been in this situation? I keep surgery as a very last option, but am curious for others, especially women in their early 40's, who might have been through this situation. Thanks for any input.

wearing a removable cast with a sesamoid cut out can help offload the pressure to allow for healing.  then, you can transition to an orthotic once the pain subsides.  if you truly have sesamoiditis and no fracture is involved, a cortisone can help too.
