Sprained ankle

by stillliving1981, Sep 28, 2009 02:03PM
Aug 28, I jumped out of my husbands semi and sprained both sides of my ankle, ( I am used to spraining the right side of my ankle as I've been doing it since I was a kid) but this time I sprained the inside of my left ankle also. I still have a swollen ring around it, and anytime I move my ankle to the side or up or down (Mainly sideways) I have excruciating pain (Inside ankle). My pain level is 10 or higher, and I immediately have to take ibuprofen and sit down till the pain goes away. I am able to walk on it as long as I watch very very closely what I do or how I do it. My husband says if it does not get better by Friday he is going to MAKE me go to he Dr. Which I do not want to go because I have done this many times before and I don't feel it's a good idea to waste money on something I have heard a million times already. Ice, elevate, ibuprofen, bandage. etc. So I am writing to find out what you think. I know you are a doctor and will say you should have a xray taken on it. Well, I don't want to hear that, I already know that. I want to know if I REALLY need to go in, if you think there is possibly something going on that I can not fix at home. And if so what does it sound like it could be to you?
Thank you.

rest ice elevate and take ibuprofen. also, wear an ankle brace with athletic shoes to provide support.   if it doesn't improve, you will have to get either an MRI or xray.  you may have torn some ligaments or broken a bone.
