Tarsal Tunnel: Surgery?

Tarsal Tunnel: Surgery?

About a year and a half ago I had a post tibial tendon transfer done. I have had some success, but have developed an on going problem in the are where I had surgery; some numbness, tingling, and my ankle often aches with a very uncomfortable sensation. If I rub against or press on a particular area of my ankle located near the incision I have increased pain, disformfort and other symptoms. My Dr. has tried several things. I am taking Celebrex and Lyrica. I have tried physical therapy, recently I had a shot of cortizone and am now wearing a compression sock. The only thing that has offered some releif is the compression sock. There was some discussion of an MRI in the near future. The Dr thinks I may have deveopled Trasal tunnel syndrome. If scar tissue from the PTT surgery is causing the problem- will it ever go away without surgery? Is there anything I could have done to cause the scar tissue? What happens if I say no to the surgery-could there be prement damage that will get worse without surgery? The idea of another surgery scars me. The recovery from the tendon transfer was awful, I am not sure I can go through that again, but would if I were going to get myself into more trouble if I didn't have t he surgery. I love my Dr and turst him, but wonder if I should go the an ortho.

it does sound like a nerve entrapment.  sometimes this will occur b/c your body formed a thick scar post surgery.  i recommend physical therapy to help reduce the scarring.
b/f going to surgery, i would obtain an EMG and nerve conduction study to make sure this is the case.
if not, you may have another issure arising.  did the hardware pinning the tendon protrude? this could cause pain too.
