what is the treatment for painful bunions

I have bunions and hammer toes, and I see podiatrist next week and want to know what to expect and ask?  My feet hurt so bad some days I can barely walk.  Anti inflammatory I am taking for bursitis and OA is helping the pain right now. If I have surgery what can I expect and is that the best route for me. I am 57. Thank you.

You would need x-rays to assess the severity of the bunions and hammertoes.  Then, a procedure plan can be determined to correct the foot.  There are some procedures for severe bunions that require staying off the feet for 6 weeks.  Some hammertoe surgeries require pinning the toes straight after cutting bone, possible tendon transfers, and fusions.  If your bunions are not bad and the hammertoes can still straighten with force, you could get by with a surgery that would allow you to walk immediately and possibly no pinning of the hammer toes.
