hernited disk foot drop recovery

I am so glad to have found MedHelp, there is so little information about foot drop on the web.
About 6 months ago, I developed a foot drop.  After a colon rectal cancer, I was going to the bathroom squatting and that certainly contributed to the foot drop.  I have seen an orthopedic surgeon, a physical therapist, an acupuncture, a chiropractor and now an osteopath doing some physical manipulation.  I only wear an AFO for driving.  Little by little my toes are lifting more and more although I still have a long way to go.  I do some stretching, some exercises and a lots of walking every day.  Few times a week I use a tens unit to get electric shocks on leg and foot like I learned when I was doing physical therapy. Lately I am having a slight pain at my herniated disk, is it a sign that things are getting unblocked?
