2 weeks post op problem advice needed please

hi its been 2 weeks since i had the operation to fix my hiatus hernia, i had laparascopic surgery, and have been fine up until 3 days ago, when i went shopping and had to bend over to get something, i suddenly felt very nauseous, and had to go home, i managed not to be sick, but i have been left with a tightening sensation in my throat constantly, ( even when im not bending) pluswhen i do bend over to wash my hair , or lie down flat i feel sick. i can eat soft foods and liquids no problem, but its the  tightening sensation / feeling sick  that concerns me. i have no acid or reflux since the op which is a good thing, but need to know if the symptoms im getting are normal. i keep telling myself its only been two weeks and that im still healing, and i hope this is the case. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks
bev

hi val...its 3 weeks wednesday since i had the op..but taking into account.i didnt have my galbladder out ,i was well enough after a week and a half to go about my normal daily activities, but eating normally will take a good few weeks..i came home with a diet plan, everything is ok to eat as long as u puree / juice it well and sieve it to make sure there are no bits in it...i have 8 weeks worth of liquid drinks, fortisip and fortijuice to be taken 3 times a day to maintain my weight  (  i was about 10  and have lost about 4-5 pounds since) i couldnt manage it , and was drinking 2 a day..but have since stopped altogether as i am managing more solid food..dare i say it im eating rather more normally than i was which i am relieved about....directly after surgery u will feel sore,  and very bloated..fizzy soluble painkillers may not help because they are fizzy and porduce alot of gas..u will find burping umcomfortable at first and pain in the shoulder which is uncomfprtable,.so if they offer u morphine thru an iv ,accept it .i had a catheter inserted, a tube that went up my nose and into the stomach to drain fluid away,( which i wasnt expecting) they give u anti coagulant injections into your tummy , and anti sickness  drugs thru an iv.. they remove all the tubes  as soon as they can tho to get you up and mobile..u can usually come home the day after but i had to wait an extra day as i was late going to theatre..i have to see my surgeon in 5 weeks ( he said healing would take 8 weeks), i think i overdid it a week or so ago as i felt unwell when i bent over or laid flat...but the feeling has eased a bit and ive learned to crouch instead of bend now lol...anyway i hope this helps ,if u need any more info please ask..
regards

Hi Bev
So glad to hear your op went well, I'm just waiting for my op date to have mine done plus have my gallbladder removed at the same time, and I'm so nervous, I feel like the doctor explained nothing to me he just told me to look it up on the net so I'm very much in the dark, Can you tell me how long you were in the hospital, how long before you were driving again, just anything you can please tell me.

Thanks so much

hi selma, ive made an appointement with my doctor for next week, but im pleased to say the symptoms i was getting have receded, my throat has become comfortable agin, and ive stopped worrying about it ..maybe it was just stress after all..? as far as recommending the surgery to anyone...you have to weigh up how bad your symptoms have become, if u think its spoiling your quality life then go for it, because it will get better, but beware that healing time will be up to 8 weeks ( im ok after 2 weeks but had a minor setback which has sorted itself out), eating normally is out of the question until at least 2 weeks post op. but there again , you would not be able to eat normally due to reflux and heartburn anyway !.its just a difffernt way of eating/chewing which your body will appreciate in the long run..im .looking forward to eating  egg and chips after 8 weeks lol..good luck to everyone having this done..i hope it works for you...im acid and reflux free, and no more high doses of lanzoprazole for me , so its looking positive , plus i needed to lose a few pounds so that was a bonus   xx B

Hi , not having this procedure I can not help, but suggest u call ur surgeon and ask what might be going on.

And u r so right...u do need to give ur body to heal.....we all tend to heal at a diff pace, so look to how u heal from scrapes and other issues u may have had, if u r slow to heal u deff need a bit more time.

Good luck
