4 months old baby with GERDS and DELAYED GASTRIC EMPTYING

I have a four month old daughter who was diagnosed with GERDS at 7 weeks old. They put her on Zantac, a couple weeks later she started to vomit and have diaherea really bad, I took her to the ER, they gave her some nausea medication and that helped a ton, so I went to my pediatrician the following Monday and he put her on Reglan. I had changed her formula to Alimentum the same time the doctor put her on Reglan. Everything seemed to make things worse. I tried peppermint water. I tried about everything. Simithicone for gas relief, gripe water for colic. I was pulling my hair out. So finally my pediatrician referred us to a GI Specialist, we went on September 3rd 09, he ended up putting her in the hospital. After spending a week in the hospital the week of hell. So many tests done. We learned she had a Delayed Gastric Emptying, they put her on ERYPED and Prevacid. Stopped the Zantac, and we learned she was allergic to the Reglan. They changed her formula to Elecare. Tuesday 9-15 we did a Upper Endoscopy and found out she has no allergies and no diseases, while I thank god for this. I have to wonder why my daughter is still screaming in pain, and vomiting with diaherea now. She also has a rash all over her face, I believe she is allergic to the EryPed but I am not sure. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to make her more comfortable. She sleeps at 45 degree angle. She eats that way to, she is always sitting up after eating but yet still throwing up everything, including water and pedialyte. After a few weeks of losing weight, she has finally maintained her weight. Not losing not gaining. Please help, I have three other children and never had this kind of issue. I cry she cries, she cries I cry. Its so hard to watch her in such pain and not be able to help.

HI and welcome to the GERD forum.

I am soooooo sorry ur little angel is in such distress....but mom...stop crying......she will pick up on how u feel and translate it and it is a viscious cycle....she needs to relax and u being relaxed will help her.

My DD is 24 so I am not sure what is on the market these days as far as formulas go....but if u feel she is reacting to the formula...ask her ped what else u might try.

If she has gas and bloating...try bitters.....ask if this would be ok with her dr and how much to give.....this can be found in a drug store/pharmacy.

Also, in trying to relax her...try massage....lie her on her tummy on ur lap and give her a gentile massage....it will help her so much....even lightly bringing ur fingers down the right side of her back and the going from right to left on her lower back...it'll help move the gas out.

Good luck and please post an update

Godspeed
