Acid Reflux-Water Bash

by sqwak1200, Feb 05, 2008 08:16PM
Can Acid Reflux cause an increase in Saliva Production?  My brief  history is as follows:
1. Endoscopy on Oct 23, 07-Diagnosed with Mild Gastritis
2.  Biopsy came back positive for H. Pylori
3.  Started Triple Therapy (Aciphex, Amoxicilian and Clarithymiacin)
4.  Started having Water Bash on the 4th day of Triple therapy.(as of Jan 3, 08-I am Neg for H. Pylori)
5.  The excess saliva(somewhat frothy) fills up my mouth and I have to constantly spit it out.
6.  I do not have any other GERD related symptoms
7.  I stopped taking Aciphex in late Nov 07.  Aciphex is rather expensive ($5/pill)
Been to my Primary Physician five times, my GI doc twice and two  different ENT's.  Prim Phys and GI doc did not know why I am suffering from Excess Saliva.  The 2nd ENT did a Videostroboscopy and believes I am having Acid Reflux which is causing my saliva problems.  He told me to take Prilosec and Benadryl.  So far there has not been a change in my symptoms(3 days of Prilosec and Benadryl so far).

What else could I do to solve my problem?(I have spent a lot of money in Medical Copay's without a solution)

Hi sqwak1200,
Acid reflux is one of the causes of increased salivation . Increased salivation can be caused by even dental/oral problems.

For ruling out increased salivation due to acid reflux, do a pH monitoring test.
