Acid Reflux
I've been drinking coffee for about two years daily(which started out 2 cups a day and now has escalated to about 8). Lately I've been drinking a lot of tea with this coffee.
Earlier this week I started having pains in my upper stomach. Along with the pain I've been feeling very nauseous. I didn't think nothing of it when it started so I continued my regular coffee and tea type diet. I know my dad gets acid reflux but I've nvr experienced it before despite how often I drink this stuff.
Today the pains are really bad and it's difficult to eat. I took a Zantac about 30min-1hr ago. I'm still in a lot of pain and I'm not sure what to do. I'm not insured and my parents won't take me to the doctors. I don't think they understand the pain I'm in. What can I do to make it stop?

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

Both beverages can be part of your issue.....stress can also trigger these symptoms....you did not mention your age....but I am assuming you're a minor since you stated your parents won't take you to see a Dr.

Pain from reflux can take a while to subside....and symptoms can take up to a week or more of taking meds to show improvements..so do not be too quick to think the med won''t help..but do cut back on these drinks.

Also take a closer look at your diet and life style as you may want to make other modifications there too.

i have to eat bread before drinking coffee now after having GERD for over 20 yrs. Yesterday, had a severe esophagitis attack after drinking coffee with only yoghart and banana in tummy. BUT this was because i had 3 beers late the night before, with just an apple after. too much irritation at one time. It subsided quickly after raw bread.

Bread is probably soaking some of the acid, giving you a small break. I know beer and coffee are those small life pleasures that are hard to let go of. I can only hope that your GERD is not severe enough for you to regret that one day.
