Acid indigestion

Hi there,
I had a bad sinus infection which caused post nasal drip which in turn caused a lot of acid reflux.
I have a burning in my throat and stomach and burp a lot after eating. Taking antacids do help for a while.
My doc said it was as a result of the post nasal drip and he said it will go.
I have been told that Zantac will help to reduce the acid and help. Does anyone know if this will help a condition
such as this. The symptoms I have,  do sound a lot like GERD to me.
Thanks

Thanks selma,
I actually looked at a saline spray today in the pharmacist, I might go back out and buy it.
Like you, I was unaware the drip was occuring some days until the sore throat started up.

Hi and welcome to the Gerd forum.

I just wanted to add to gnorb's informative post. I too get flare's when ever my post nasal drip acts up...this is in addition to a hiatial hernia. Since u have Post nasal drip....sometimes I am unaware that it is occurring, so I was told to use a saline nose spray on a reg basis to prevent the post nasal drip causing another flare of gerd.

U did mention u were givena nose spray, but I wanted to mention...continue to use a saline one to prevent this happening again!!

Thanks for replying,
I've just been prescribed a decongestant and a nasal spray for the mucus.  It was the acid I was worried about. I didn't realise mucus could cause the acid to flare up like that.

Mucus is an irritant to the stomach, which is why whenever you get sick your stomach goes crazy for a while. Your doc is right: So long as the post nasal drip persists, so might your acid. In addition to the Zantac (which is a histamine (H2) inhibitor) ask your doc about taking some decongestants to help clear the mucus. This should also help.
