Acid reflux and chest/back pains

I was diagnosed with severe clinical depression 10 years ago. Over time that has evolved into anxiety. Both run in my family. A long way back! 4 years ago I was diagnosed with acid reflux. In July 2012, I had a miscarriage (my first pregnancy). Since then my anxiety has slowly evolved into health anxiety/hypochondria. I have become very sedentary since my miscarriage. My acid reflux seems to be getting worse. I take Dexilant 60mg every morning as well as 150mg of Welbutrin once a day. I am tired of all the pains that come with reflux! I keep focused on that it is something far worse (like heart disease or throat/stomach cancer) due to the lack of exercise. I am just looking for help dealing with this Health Anxiety!! Please help!! I am only 28 years old and am ready to try to conceive again! But I am afraid I won't survive the pregnancy/delivery. The only heart related problems that run in my family are high blood pressure.

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

The one med u r on Wellbutrin also known as bupropion...this med can have side effects that u should talk over with ur Dr.

What are the possible side effects of bupropion?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.

Anxiety itself can feed the reflux symptoms to flare....so talk with ur Dr about getting the med possibly changed...then also talk about other changes u can make to ur diet and lifestyle to help the meds reduce flare ups of reflux.

Hello there,

Just to let you know, even though I don't have a solution for you, I thought you would be comforted to know that there are literally thousands of other people with your same symptoms - including myself. I have been to so many doctors I've lost count. It's incredibly annoying, but as far as everyone can tell - not dangerous. You may very well have a hiatal hernia that will increase the pain of normal reflux conditions. I will post back if I ever get any good solutions, but in the meantime, try to calm your nerves and realize it's just an annoyance.

I also forgot to mention that in the past few weeks I have been getting short of breath for no reason (unless it is anxiety related). And the back pains are right in the center of my back and the left side of my chest. Recommendations? Suggestions?
