Alternatives for reflux

I have been treated for silent reflux by taking 40 mg of omeprazole 45 minutes before supper for last four months. I have just started tapering down to 20mg. I also take acebutolol for premature heart beats 200mg 2x a day. My husband swears by unsulphured black strap molasses for his reflux and arthritis in his hands. I would love to try it but I have read foods rich in potassium are to be avoided with beta blockers. Blackstrap is rich in potassium and iron. I have also considered DGL tablets. Is this safe with my heart med? Gotta get off this PPI without rebound!

Take a look at my forum that says, "GERD." I used all natural supplements. Check with your doctor to make sure all of them are okay to take for your condition and mixing them with medication.

I agree with Selma, you should ask your doctor.  That said, I have taken Beta Blockers for years and have never been warned about avoiding Potassium.  In fact, for years I took a prescription-grade potassium supplement while prescribed  the beta blockers.  Often times people who take beta blockers have high blood pressure and also take Lasix, a strong diuretic and must take a very strong potassium supplement.
HOWEVER:  if someone is prescribed Spirolactone, another diuretic at the same time, as I am now, excess potassium in pill form and in the diet has to be avoided.
I have Congestive Heart Failure and my sodium and potassium levels as many other levels are monitored with blood tests because of the drug cocktail I must take to stay on the sunny side of the planet, and know that a potassium deficiency is dangerous and a potassium excess is even more dangerous to someone with heart problems.
That is a long explanation that you should be praised for your concern about potassium, and a reason why you need to ask your doctor.

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

I would strongly suggest u speak with ur Dr....rebound can be avoided if u taper slowly,,....but we r not Drs here so we can not advise u on what u should or could take....

Only ur Dr that sees u can offer that  suggestion....and would also consult with ur cardio Dr.
