Am i going to be ok??!!

So i just got a sudden onset of reflux so i popped a half teaspoon of baking soda in some lemonade. The powder you mix with water

Started to bubble and now taste dang identical to alka seltzer! I assume the bubbling came from the baking soda reacting with the citric acid in the lemonade mix. I just want to be safe and hope i didn't consume some bad concoction! :(

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

U would have been better off not drinking the lemonaid....try just water...the lemon is too acidic for u right now....

and until u see a Dr u will want to avoid greasy , acidic, alcoholic bevs, carbonated bevs, spicy foods....and eating 3 to 4 hrs prior to laying down....

Keep a journal of the foods that seem to trigger the symptoms for u as well as how ur day went to see if u can find all ur triggers .....stress is a big one for many of us..and we have to learn how to deal with it and learn to relax...and avoid what makes us feel worse. See the Health Pages for more tips on foods that r safe and foods to avoid -http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/list?cid=236

Lemonade is acidic, baking soda is alkaline. What you did was instead of having the baking soda make your stomach acid less acidic (by adding an alkaline substance), you made your lemonade less acidic instead.

No worries. There might have been some baking soda available to make your stomach acid less acidic, but most likely it didn't really do much. If it helped, it probably was because your stomach was empty and adding a thicker liquid kept it from refluxing.
