Anyone with gerd gets asthma?

Hi how much role does GERD play in creating asthma like symptoms? Does Hiatus hernia fill up the spaces between the lungs and prevent them from expanding? I get this asthma like symptoms which doctors say isn't asthma , but I feel so sick.. and more so when I have acid reflux or gas?

It's not uncommon for people with GERD to present with asthma-like symptoms. Acid gets into the lungs, causes inflammation and even spasms, and voila! Asthma-like issues. A hiatal hernia, unless is HUGE, doesn't do much in the way of preventing the lungs to expand. However, since a hiatal hernia that's "up" causes the LES to stop working by displacing the mechanism, it would make it very easy for acid to splash up.

If the docs say it's not asthma, it's not. However, if left uncontrolled, GERD can lead to asthma.

Thanks. I have tried to control GERD with omeprazole everyday. Perhaps I have less acid reflux now, but gosh just acid reflux is controlled not the whole reflux thing. Non-acid reflux might be causing this too, possible?

Maybe, or maybe the omeprazole has stopped working properly. (This is common.) You should go see a gastroenterologist about this and tell them that you're either refluxing or regurgitating and having breathing problems due to this.
