Baby doesn't like to be changed.

Hello all, just posting a question to see if there are any others out there like my little one and what you might have done to help this situation. From day one (before we knew he had reflux) my son who is now a year old never liked to be laid down for diaper changes. The only thing I have done, which doesn't really seem to help that much is elevate the changing pad mattress and go quickly through the crying. Do any of you have this problem with your refluxers and if so did you have any success? My little one isn't walking yet, but I can hardly wait until I can change him standing up!

Take care all...

Robyn

Does your baby have any sort of rash on his bottom? I am not talking a diaper rash, more like hives?

Can you change him somewhere other then on the changing table?  I mean if he doesn't mind the floor go to the floor.  Same with a couch or something.  Those would be my only suggestions.  It is stressful but it is best to do what he will do to get through it.  That and do it FAST

Well....I guess it may be helpful to get potty training done....if his dislike of the changing table is so strong...he may rather use the potty.

Mine was a handful at that age as well....as I mentioned it took 2 of us to bathe and change her also.

And my thoughts on being playful with tickling are outside of changing.....not on the table so he associates lying down with play instead of changing.

Just a thought

Good luck

Hi Selma,

This problem is only during diaper changes now. Yes, of course I have tried to distract him and sometimes I can get him to focus on something else, or tickle him, but it never fails, once he sees the changing table he starts to whimper. When he was a newborn he hated tummy time and always preferred to be held than to lie down anywhere. But once he learned how to get around he doesn't mind laying down on his tummy to play. I was just wondering if there were other babes that were as difficult as mine.

Hi Robyn,

May I ask, have u tried getting him to lie down for ne other reason?....can u tickle his tummy?.....during play will he roll on his back?

My DD when she was around that age was like that it took 2 of us to give her a bath.....but I did learn how to get her to think of something else by starting to play first, and I kept the playing atmosphere up as I gave a bath or did the changing.

Sometimes it is the fear of feeling badly....not actually feeling bad...so if u keep his mind off of it that may help.

Please post an update.
