Belching, gas and choking feeling in throat

I have always had digestive problems, mostly lots of belching and sensitive stomach. I am 49 years old and very active with sports and other things. The last years have become horrible with belching after eating and a choking kind of feeling in my throat. It is worst at night. I take a lot of supplements, to see what can help. It is on the left side a little under my ribs. I think it might be a hiatial hernia, or acid reflux, or gastritis. All or which one? I examined my stomach 2 years ago, nothing wrong. My life is horrible, because this can hit at any time. I can also get well at any time. It har been specialy bad for the last 2 months. It feels like my stomach is comming up in my troath and I cannot even wear a polo neck. Then the awful belching or burping that goes on and on. Please, help if you know anything. Thank you so much!

selma asks a great question about prescription meds, diet and lifestyle.  I'd suggest also locking away the supplements for awhile and see if that helps.  Frankly, in my opinion and after following that route, they at best make expensive urine and at worst make your situation worse.  Try raising the head of your bed about six inches with a 4 x 4 beam plus a couple of 3/4 inch boards, this should keep acid from the stomach from draining into the mouth in the evenings.  Selma also gives great advice about avoiding soda, alcohol, above all, smoking, and most certainly, don't eat anything three hours before bedtime.
It could be all three of your concerns, and I'd take your condition seriously.  I had surgery to correct the problem, but the damage was severe.  I have had to had my teeth capped to replace eroded enamel after difficult but successful surgery, and have to have yearly exams to check a pre-cancerous condition of the esophagus.
I'd also suggest seeing a GI doctor of course.

Hi u mention u r on supplements, but r u on meds for reflux?...have u modified ur diet and lifestyle?

If not, look at the Health Pages here on MedHelp for tips....http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/list?cid=236

A GI dr should be able to tell u y u r having these issues....like if u have a hiatal hernia or not....

also, it is important to be aware of what foods and lifestyle activities may be adding to ur issues...such as spicy foods, soda's, alcohol, smoking, eating late at night.....etc....

Please keep us posted on how u r doing
