CAN NISSAN BE REDONE?

My friends son had a nissan performed when he was like 2 months old and was told that the stitch would break on its on eventually from the procedure. He is 15 with terrible eating complications and the stitch has still not broken. There is a large varience of size between a 2 month old and a fifteen year old's stomach i would think. Could this procedure need to be redone and could the fact that it needs redone be contributing to his failure to thrive condition? URGENT PLEASE HELP US??!! tyvm

Well i know he cant vomit and can only eat very small amounts at a time. He also HAS TO take some kind of prilosec or something everyday repeatedly. There has got to be some resolution for this he has no quality of life like this. It was originally supposed to have released on its own is our understanding but never did apparently. Since he is 15 could he use an adult gastro physician or does he need to see a pediatric gastro specialist?
Thank You!!

The short answer is yes, it can be redone. The reality thought is that the portion of stomach that is wrapped around the esophagus also grows such that the wrap does not typically get too tight. He needs to be restudied to ascertain the current anatomy. Sometime the wrap can "slip" and cause some obstruction. Patients can also get recurrent reflux. Either of these could potentially lead to a failure to thrive but would typically be apparent by either recurrent reflux symptoms or difficulty swallowing.
