Can GERD and the common cold be related?

Hello. New to the forum.

I have been dealing with GERD since last August. Still trying to manage it and it's not going very well. Since November I have had a cold every month.I am absolutely miserable. My current cold is the worst one to date with coughing and chills.
Has anyone here noticed that they are more susceptible to viral infections when having a GERD flare? Thanks for you help.

Hi...it seems to be a vicious cycle too in that if u have a cold or post nasal drip, the fluids that drain into ur stomach can cause a flare of gerd as well.

So which comes first the chicken or the egg  or gerd or the cold may be the question.

I pray u feel better soon : )

Hi! Welcome to the forum, although it is an unfortunate forum to be a part of. I can remember my husband being sick a lot when he had GERD. It makes sense. Since your body is not digesting food optimally, you're probably not getting maximum nutrient absorption. Your body is already under tremendous stress from dealing with the various harsh symptoms, and your immune system is fighting overtime to try and deal with your injured digestive system. Germs and viruses can easily enter your weakened body and take hold.
