Cant swallow anything

I am 41 and have had problems swallowing for a couple of years.
3 months ago I had to go to the er after not being able to swallow from 6pm till noon the next day.
They gave me an intervenious medicine to relax the throat muscle. Within 20 minutes, i could gargle water.
Yippeeeeeeee. they said i had a spasm in the throat.
Same thing happened again last night and now it is nearly noon and still cant swallow solids or liquids.
My stomach acid is high as it is burning my throat. I don't want to go to the ER. any ideas to help???

Hi difficultswallow,

Swallowing difficulty has to be evaluated properly.

I would suggest the following tests to know why it is occuring -

1. Barium swallow test
2. Eosphageal manometry
3. Upper GI endoscopy.

Treatment varies depending on the final diagnosis.
