Constant feeling of something stuck in throat - LPR?

Hello,
About 2 weeks ago, out of the blue, I started experiencing a feeling of a lump in my throat, kind of like a sensation of something being stuck in my throat, along with difficulty swallowing, and pressure sort of like I need to burp but can't. I have been to the ENT doctor and she diagnosed me with LPR (silent reflux) after looking down my throat with a tube. I have never had problems with heartburn in my life before. She said my throat was very inflammed and prescribed 4 Prilosec per day and diet changes. I am 35 year old female, smoker, otherwise good health, and am not overweight. I have been following her instructions exactly and have been on the meds (which is a very strong dose) for 1 week now and feel horrible still. I can't eat, have lost 5 lbs. in the past week, can't sleep because I wake up in the middle of the night feeling like I am choking, and am getting really scared about this. I know panicking makes it worse but I honestly don't know what it wrong with me and no one else understands what I am going through. Wouldn't the meds be starting to make me feel better by now if it was really acid reflux? Please help, I am desperate for answers and relief.

Hi Trisha and welcome to the GERD forum.

It does take time for the PPI meds to work.Even tho u r on a stronger dosge,I do not believe it will make it work faster.

Since this is affecting ur sleep, have u elevated the head of ur bed?...it can help keep the acids down in ur stomach instead of giving it an easier route to ur esphopagus.

Most of the instructions I have read do include NO smoking.

Please see the Health Pages here on MedHelp for more info on what besides the meds you can do to help reduce the over production of acid.

I would also suggest seeing a GI dr.

Please keep us posted on ur progress.
