Coughing Excess Amounts of Mucus

My body produces very very large amounts of clear sticky fluid, as much as a quart of mucus every night, that chokes me and forces me to cough severely to bring it out so I can breath. I feel like I am drowning from the inside.  This is especially bad when lying down, making sleep very difficult!  Elevated beds or sitting up provides little help.  It is also bad when bending over or sitting.  After extensive testing over many years Doctors say it is caused by allergies or reflux.  I have taken every immaginable drug to dry it up and every thing to prevent reflux but nothing not even slightly helps.  At one point I tookmany shots for allergies.  Nothing helps. When I have an especially bad bout, I am forced to eat crackers, graham type, to block or absorb what ever is producing it. Loosing weight has helped in the past but the problem returns.  Please anyone can you help me.  Are there any Doctors or others out there that are familiar with this problem who might help me.

Hi...my first thought was allergy as I was reading ur account of ur issues, but I also wonder if u have a sinus issue , which with all the draining will cause reflux...so reflux itself may not be the source.Have u had a MRI of ur head?

Have u been to an ENT dr?

I also wonder what meds u were on , and if u were told to modify ur diet as well to see if it is a food allergy? Keep a journal as to what u eat and if ur issue intensifies.....

Since u r asking for a Drs opinion u may want to try the expert forum as this is the support forum...no drs post here on a regular basis.
