Coughing that causes vomiting attacks???

Hi.  I don't really know where to start.....Hmmm, OK,  I don't have any food or air born allergies.  I also don't have a cold and haven't for a long time.
I do have this cough though that sometimes starts with a tickle or just pops out of no where that is so violent that it causes me to get sick. This has lasted for a few months; but, now is getting bad because it's been causing me to get sick now for the last couple of weeks.
PRIOR History:
My lower back has been verry sore for months and still is.  I had ex-rays done and I guess my back is fine.
My chest hurts and I get stabbing pains.  Cardio Dr said my heart cath came out ok.
I've had a lot of stress over the last few months in which was so bad in July I seen a gastro Dr for my IBS acting up.
He gave me pills to take that helped and when the stress eased some, I didn't need them anymore.  I do have a appt. for a colonoscopy (due to prior polyps 18 yrs ago+) and a endoscopy because of this cough that at first I just thought was from smoking.
I get muscle pains threw out my whole body this time of year when the temperature starts to drop and I'm usually cold to the bone and therefor I have to use tissues often cause my nose is runny.  My feet and hands are also cold; but, sweaty.
The back of my throat looks a little red and my uvula is longer than it usually is.  It lays on my tongue a little now.
My stomach often hurts and is sore and bloated.
Tired often anymore.  It's hard to sleep with coughing fits.
Hopefully if I go threw these two test they will answer something as to why?
Sorry if this was all too much information.  lol
Anyone out there have these issues or a clue on what it could be?  Does it sound like Gerd?

I take a long list of Rx drugs for heart, thyroid, edema, cholesterol, and pain spasms.  Lately I have added Acidophilis and Pepsid AC to the list.  My test are at the end of this month.  Scared to death to go threw another colon test though.  Ouchy.  Thanks in advance for any reply.
Hopefully between those two test they are doing, it will give me a answer for this problem at least.  I'm just so tired of being sore and tired.  (HUGS)

Hi Sweets.  Sorry it's been a long while since I have been on.  I still have issues with having to sleep pretty much upright and getting maybe 3 -4 hours of sleep a night due to having burning fluid shooting up my throat and nose.  Sorry I know TMI.  lol  I'm taking 2-3 tums each night now.  As I mentioned before the thyroid test came out ok.  I get the basic bld work and U/S ~ every 1 1/2 years.  I now take lyrica due to Fibromyalgia and now on extra BP/HR drugs to keep it at bay sorta along with the pain.

I was abused a couple weeks ago.  I don't want to go into details online.  I have a lump on my throat and I'm having a hard time swallowing now along with bruising on my stomach.  I'm guessing the lump on my throat is causing more reflex; but, not sure?.....I hate to go to the doctor for this.  Sort of embarrassing.

I have a one year old daughter. She has had reflux since the day she was born. I have to a zillion doctors but they just keep asking me to wait. She is seriously in trouble coz once her reflux vomit starts..she gets this terrible cough n then nothing stays inside. She loses precious weight that I try sobdamn hard to get on her. I dont know where to go or what to do. Ibwant her to start healing now. But no cough meds help. Neither the ones I give her for reflux. That vomiting doesnt go away. Im in Pakistan so I cant consult with overseas doctors or hospitals.

I have a few nodules and my Dr checks them via ultra sound every 6 months to look for growth.....

And I know it is hard to get them to do the other testing, but it is a way to find a auto immune issue....

((hugs)) back to u and hope to hear from u again....soon : )

I will be asking about the thyroid test; but, usually they only will check the TSH and refuse anything else.  On my old thyroid test I have a couple nodules; but, they are small.  I don't know if she will check those or not.  It's been a couple years and if they can't feel them growing, they usually don't do another ultrasound cause they say they are not growing.
If nothing else maybe the pain specialist will order extra bld work and such things.  Fingers crossed.  I'm so tired of living in pain and feeling bla.
Anyhow, thank you all so very much for being there for me.
((((Gentle Hugs)))) my dear friends.  :-)

  Thanks for the update.....

Make sure when they test u for thyroid they also look to an auto immune thyroid condition like Hashimoto's, if they only do TSH it can appear to be "normal" u need the free T3 and freeT4 and TPO antibodies done along with TSH....even a ultra sound of the thyroid can be helpful in detecting this condition which can go from normal levels to hyper to hypo....it seems to be ever changing....

Good luck and update us again on how u r doing : )

Hi everyone.  I didn't realize until now that I haven't replied on this.  I haven't been in to see my family Dr. since April 2012 so I don't have the print outs.  I was told the 3 polyp biopsys were fine in the colon and stomach.  :-)  I guess I was wrong on the numbers as there was 7 of them.  They are gone now though so who cares.  lol
I have to go back to the Dr. in July for Yearly bld work.  I will be asking for thyroid numbers, along with a bunch of other test.
I still have issues with this but not as much sickness.  My main complaint now is with my body pains and spasms (and has been for 13 year now).  They are destroying my way of life and limiting me from doing so much.  I'm going to insist (at this point) for a referral to a pain specialist.
Anyhow, just wanted to pop in and say hey and thank you all for your kindness.  ((((HUGS)))).

Just a quick update.  I had my endoscopy and my colonoscopy yesterday.

The only thing I know so far is that the colonoscopy was fine.  They done 3 biopsys of the colon to be on the safe side.
The endoscopy they found a polyp in my stomach in which is also being biopsied.
All in all I think it went pretty well.  Should know back in a week on the results.  Still having issues; but, will see?

PND- Post Nasal Drip can be a big issue for many with GERD/reflux as it is the constant draining into the gut that causes the symptoms, so it is beneficial to see a Dr for that as well an ENT is  a specialist for that ...and I am sure ur other Drs will advise if they feel this is the rt u need to explore....but I would not ignore the possibility.

The link is not to a separate site but to more info for this site....hope u r able to find helpful info.

Let us know how u r doing <3

If your gastro hasn't figured out why or is not helping you figure out why you have these issues.. you probably need to find another one, or see another one on the side. PND is post nasal drip (I had to google that one too).

Having tests done again still sounds like a good idea. In the least, you can compare then to now and check for any changes. There are ranges, and if your range has changed noticeably, that shows you are out of the range for how you are supposed to be.. or you previously were. ESPECIALLY when it comes to thyroid issues. Next time you have thyroid tests done, check for tsh, free t4, free t3, hashimoto's antibodies, and grave's antibodies. If you're on thyroid medication, you need to be seeing an endocrinologist. Well, okay. Depends on the thyroid issue and how knowledgeable the person is, but since I don't know you, I'm just gonna say see an endo. #1 thing right now I see is that you say in cold temps you get tired.. it's possibly a decrease in vitamin d. Some people use grow lights to make vitamin d, if you'd rather do that than have a supplement. If you go supplements, take a d3 5k iu a day. Thyroid patients need as much as they can get and 5k iu daily is the end of the daily recommended dose for HEALTHY people. You will also need magnesium and zinc to be able to take in the vitamin d.. not sure what the numbers are at the moment.

Ear, Nose, Throat docs (ENT) will be able to help you more than you think. They deal in lymphnodes, thyroid, etc. as well as the more common stuff you'd think. Be sure to research any doctor you go to, though.

I don't have a ENT.  I have a general doctor (internal med) , a Cardiologist and Gastroenterology Dr..  I'm at my whitts end in test.
Years ago I had a Pulmonologist in which said I had slight COPD.
Sorry I don't know what PND means.
I do elevate my head.  For the last 7 years I have been sleeping in a recliner.
I will check into the web site listed above though.
Thank you both for your advice.  ((((HUGS))))

Hi...have u been to an ENT...check for PND as that can cause the coughing, runny nose and the IBS issues too along with reflux.

All the issues the above poster mentions r also good to rule out....and to help., elevate the head of ur bed and see if sleeping is easier with less coughing.....

And do look at tips and info in our Health Pages on foods to avoid and foods that are safe to eat with GERD- http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/list?cid=236

I would suggest testing your thyroid again. Make sure you're doing okay. Maybe even post in the thyroid forums in case anyone went through something similar or might be able to notice something that is not quite right. A lot of doctors and endos are sometimes behind on research so they might know something or could point you to links about things. Bring it up with your endo, too. Make sure that all the medications you are on are not caused by thyroid, and that you actually do have a problem and not a symptom or secondary symptom.

You need to have your vitamin d checked, as well as a full iron panel.  Honestly, though, doing as many vitamins and minerals is good, since you have so many problems, but these are the two I think of when it comes to lack of breath, pain without an apparent cause, etc. The coughing I am unsure of, but it might be a good idea to go to a ear, nose, throat doc.
