Could one night of heavy drinking cause this?

3 weeks ago it wasy friends 21st bday, and wanted to start drinking early that day. We started at noon and drank until about midnight. I ended up drinking a total of about 15-17 alcoholic drinks. That was the most I had ever drank in one day. I only had a slice of pizza and a glass of milk before I started drinking.

I am not a big drinker. I was not used to this much drinking. Usually I only drink about once a month and drink about 2 to 8 drinks usually.

3 weeks later, I feel like I can't eat as much, I feel nauseous a lot, my stomach feels upset still, and I get heartburn more, especially after eating. I also feel dizzy, and feel more anxious and have low energy Levels.

Could that one day of drinking cause these symptoms?

It depends on what damage has occurred already....so do see a GI Dr and have some testing...

Keep a journal to see what foods are your triggers....as we are all different and in a flare something as  simple as water can trigger symptoms.....

But try to keep things on the bland side and avoid  the items I mentioned....only by trial and error will you know which foods are safe for you.

About how long do you think I might take to recover from this? If I abstain from alcohol completely, that is?

And what types of foods are recommended for this?

Thank you

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

YES! Drinking in excess can do a lot of things to our GI track and not eating to help absorb it was not a great idea either.....you are lucky you did not suffer from alcohol poisoning....celebrating by drinking in excess is not the best way to celebrate IMHO....I have a friend that went out with another friend and  one went to jail bcuz the other one died in a car crash as a result of how much they drank.....not worth it to me....you are lucky in that your issues will heal with time...

Go see your Dr and get some meds to help calm things down...in the mean time avoid foods that will make you feel worse....acidic, ,spicy, or greasy foods, carbonated, and caffeine bevs as well as alcohol ......

You may have had an underlying reflux issue to start with....do look to your families medical history to help determine what all is going on and the best course of action. Keep us posted on your progress.
