B4 starting ne supplement I suggest u talk to ur Dr...but yes, a PPI can deplete magnesium and even make absorption of vitamins and minerals more difficult....
So talk with ur Dr to see which u may need,
So PPI's can lower our magnesium levels? Does this mean I can take a magnesium supplement pill without iit aggravating any GERD symptoms?
I would deff talk with ur Dr b4 u start with nething new....and magnesium does come in diff dosages and I actually take a separate magnesium tablet along with the probiotic....as I have a very odd digestive track... I was always told I had IBS but with reg use of this combo I am doing well.
So do speak with ur Dr and post an update on how u progress.
@SelmaS
Thank you so much for the response. So glad to hear I'm not alone. I had considered magnesium pills, but had heard it's bad on the stomach, so I searched other avenues. I did not realize that they make probiotics with magnesium so I'll be looking into it!
I did buy magnesium lotion (not cheap) because it got rave reviews from other users saying it helped them tremendously. I'm holding off using it for fear it will interfere with my Dexilant or that I might have some other adverse side effect. I have an appointment with my doctor, but was hoping to get some information while I wait for the appointment.
Hi...u r so right that the GERD meds do deplete us of magnesium and not all blood labs test for the type of levels lost...so, it can appear in range...even if u r out...I know that does not make sense, but that is what I was told...there r 2 test for magnesium and the standard blood test does not show the loss from these meds.
I would suggest u talk to ur Dr.
My stomach is very sensitive to meds and getting everything in balance is diff for me as well...I am taking probiotics along with magnesium, and it has helped a great deal.
Do get advice from ur Dr b4 trying to decide what is best, even in dosage.
Good luck
