I went to my ENT doctor this past Monday b/c I've had a raspy voice since October 2009. It doesn't hurt at all. I do clear my throat more than I ever have, but that's about it. I was told that I have Acid Reflux and I was prescribed Nexium which I have to take for the next 6 weeks. She told me that I have a lesion on my larynx, which was cause by the acid from my stomach. I've been told to avoid all the foods I love to eat/drink. I have never suffered from heart burn, or anything else relating to acid reflux. I never get any side effects from eating spicy or acidic foods. Could acid reflux really cause the hoarseness of my voice?
Hoarseness of voice is one of the extraesophageal symptoms of acid reflux disease.
If you have acid reflux you will get relief with Nexium.
24 hours pH monitoring may also be done for confirmation.
Thank you for responding. IF I do have acid reflux, could hoarseness of my voice be the ONE and ONLY symptom? I'm a little skeptic since I've never suffered from any of the other symptoms of acid reflux.
