Don't know what is going on...

Hi there,

Hope you can help me:  I had Gastroscopy done Nov 2009 (pics shows white stuff "growing" on my Esophagus) and General Surgeon did it and said that I have Barret's - he just looked at the pictures and didn't wait for Biopsy results.  I had a follow-up Gastroscopy done 19 Feb at a different Doc for a 2nd opinion and he says I don't have Barret's (biopsy was done and negative).  I have been drinking Altosec at night for the past 4 months.

My chest burns, my throat is white (not sore, but white inside), my voice comes and goes.  What should I think of the different diagnoses and is the Altosec helping?

Well thanks....I try to do the best I can....with my limited knowledge and I do look things up when I don't know....but i can't always make sense of what I find on line....lol....

You are helping more than you know!  It is nice just to talk to someone about this and you are a great CL!

I'll go to a GI doc in about 6 months or so, just to get a definite diagnoses.  In the meantime I'll take my meds and follow the great advice you have given me so far.

And I'll watch out for the live chat!  I am in South Africa... what time is the chat?

Deff see a GI dr.....they r specialists in this area and I personally go to one for my hiatal hernia and reflux.

I am sure I wouldn't know what I was looking at, and I understand ur concerns.....have u tried asking in the expert forum

I wish I could offer some substantial advice, but I am not a medical professional and am only giving u info from my experience with gerd and a hiatal hernia.

I wish I could show you the pics they gave me.  I actually have it on my PC.  There is horrible white stuff inside my esophagus (that is why the 1ste doc thought I have Barrets) and even on the 2nd set op pics that was taken (19 Feb) you can see that there are red dots (ulcers?) and white stuff.

He gave me a script for 12 month's Altosec and said I must come back if I develop symptoms or after 2 years for another Gastroscopy.

Is a General Surgeon the right type of Doc to do these tests or should I see a GI doc at some stage?

It seems u feel more comfortable with the 2nd dr as he did testing and confirmed u do not have Barret's....may I ask, what did he think of continuing use of the Altosec?

Have u been checked for a yeast infection?
