Ear pain -

by kid123, Jul 11, 2009 07:23PM
okay - this might sound weird but ------

years ago I was told my vagus nerve was too close to my ears - no testing was done - just I had seen an ENT for the pain which occurred with erratic heart patterns and also during an EPS when the cardiologist hit each node in the heart --  I can't remember if this was bilateral or just one side --- it was about 10 years ago

fast forward - I started having ear pain last fall - the pain would extend to my sinus areas around my eye and under the eye by the nose sometimes - this is Left sided only - the ear pain is worse with high Na in diet and the sinus area pain is worse with overcast weather - the pain was overwhelming at times.

I know I have been very dry at night - mouth breathing on cpap and trying to get that under control - also upped the humidifier settings and all -- been trying to do 2 saline nose rinses a day too

I also finally broke down and saw an ENT - primary care person had no idea

The ENT said TMJ and well this isn't really new as I have been told by dental hygienist that I grind my teeth but I have gone through the process of getting a night guard etc - major hassle btw - I am chemically sensitive and one dentist had made is too toxic - the OTC one is fine for now as I get some relief with it.   I don't have locking jaws or anything like that.  I can drain something into the back of my mouth when I massage under the ears and that does provide some relief for the ear too but not the sinuses.

However, I have also been suspecting I have silent GERD - I know 30 years ago I was told I have a hiatal hernia that was flaring but this hasn't been painful.  Just I have strong smells and tastes when I wake up and after I eat.  I have it on my list for the next PCP appt to ask about.  The dental hygienist had said this was a possibility when I asked her and the dentist about all the bizarre mouth symptoms I have.

But today something else clicked.  I hadn't had any ear pain or sinus pain today until the strong smells came  after I ate.  Now they are pretty bad.  I am a bad kid and tend not to eat breakfast so this came after our lunch which is our main meal.

Can all of this be vagus nerve problems?  I suspected some kind of cranial nerve problem when I went to the ENT not TMJ being diagnosed.

If there is a better part of the forum to post on please advise me.

TIA - kid
