Feedback from Nissen Fund Surgery

Hi there to you all.

I had my Nissen Fundoplication Surgery on 8 Feb.  Was dischardged this morning.  I was admitted on Wednesday in a normal Surgical ward but ended up staying in the ICU (high dependency unit) due to bleeding on the one incision and my heart-issues.  But that was actually God-send, cause I was given 'n morphine drip and were looked after very carefully.  I had some issues yesterday with my bladder that went in spasm and they ended up catheritizing me every few hours, but today it is much better.  Had Barium Swallow and that also went very well and all normal.  I have 5 incisions.  he was not able to go through the naval as I have had to many scar tissue from previous Lap-surgery.  I have dissolvable stitches, but at the one incision I have clips as it kept on bleeding/oozing.  I think the morphine helped a lot to control the pain as that hasn't been to bad so far.  I have Tramadol tablets to
take when necessary.

What a wonderful experience, actually!  the Hospital (Burnside War memorial in Adelaide) and Staff were so much more professional en efficient - than what I am used to from South African Private hospitals and I am definitely a morphine-fan :)

Since I woke up from surgery I was only allowed ice and sips of water, but last night I had a bit of mash and jello and had toast and tea this morning and it went well.  Not hungry at all, but hubby Fernando is going to feed me mash and jello tonight.  No bowelmovement at all.  Have already lost 2kg and feel a bit woozy and dizzy, but not to bad.

I look forward to telling you one of these days that it has all been worth it and that I am doing great.

Hi there,

As soon as we landed in Roxby on Saturday 8h30 I came straight to the hospital.  Apart from my bowels being completely blocked I still could not urinate and it turned out I had 1,2litres of urine once they put the catheter in.  Okay, so I had 2 enema's and nothing happend.  Then I had 2 senekots last night, nothing happend and now they gave me yellow syrup/meds and that seems to do the trick.  They have now removed the catheter and I have gas and bowel movement.  So hopefully I can urinate soon and can go home tomorrow.  I took morphine injections up and until now, but today is not so bad and I think I can cope with the pain now that my bladder is empty.  I am only having 1 or 2 slices of toast on wholeweadbread during the day and I try to drink some water.  But I think i am okay now.

The Doctor here phoned my Surgeon and the Surgeon said that the Hospital should not have dischardged me with a bladder and bowels that is not working...  but all ended well and I can start recuperating at home from tomorrow.
