Fundoplication w/CPAP?

by sandrajo59, Aug 12, 2008 10:04PM
My doctor has recommended a fundoplication to treat an extremely large hiatel hernia.  I am concerned because I also have sleep apnea and use a CPAP.  I understand that I cannot burp after the surgery, but sometimes I get excess air because of the CPAP.  Does anyone have an experience to share?  My doctor keeps saying he "thinks" I will be fine, which isn't making me feel real secure.  sandra_jo59***@****

Hi,
CPAP do cause abdominal bloating.
But once you get used to CPAP and when your breathing becomes regular, abdominal bloating will not be an issue.
Moreover in your case, hiatus hernia might be an additional factor for abdominal bloating due to CPAP.So once you take care of it with fundoplication, I dont think abdominal bloating would a matter of concern at all.
