GERD & Sleep

I had quite a few gastroscopies over the years - last one was in 2009 - and all of them were normal.   However, I have all the symptoms of a typical GERD that have progressed over the last 15 years - bloating, fullness, sour/bitter (awful) taste in the mouth esp. at night, food going up when I bend over, regurgitation, severe discomfort from the stomach to the chest and up the throat, gas, loss of appetite (could go a day without feeling hungry).  Lately, it's the severe discomfort (doesn't seem like a heartburn though) that have been making my life miserable.  I can't sleep at night (just like tonight and it's past 4 a.m.).  When I manage to sleep, I would be awakened by the severe discomfort 4-5 hours later, hence, I am not getting enough sleep and rest.  I'm sure that if this goes on I would die younger as my body is not able to repair and regenerate cells and tissues which occurs during restful sleep hours.

I have researched this condition and have done the diet and all lifestyle changes advised, but still the ailment is progressing.  Before it doesn't affect my sleep but now this is my greatest problem.  I used to take Zantac but it stopped helping so I was switched to Nexium for the last 9 years.  It is helping in the manner that it inhibits the pain and prevents nausea and vomiting.  However, the severe discomfort is always there especially at night, robbing me of proper and enough sleep.  For the last 4 years I am also taking Domperidone as I was told that I have functional dyspepsia.  I did not have this stomach emptying problem before but now I do.  Domperidone seems to help (and the cost is cheaper) but I am scarred about the elevation of prolactin and how it may affect me later on, esp. that I seem to get breast pain from it(which is one of the side effects).

Anyone who shares the same sleep problem?  I have no doubt that I have GERD and that my sleep problem is caused by it as I have observed myself over the years.
