GERD LAR CAN You have both

Over the past 2 weeks have had intermittent burning in my stomach & chest, a stuck sort of glob at the top of my chest/throat area and mostly this was worst in the night and particularly when I was on my right side. My stomach gurgling and noisy a lot and I have been burping for England. I also had an occasion when I could not pass stools for which I took some prune juice which seemed to resolve. Now I have discomfort in my lower back and buttock area worst when I am lying down but also when sitting - this seems to improve with walking. What is a likely explanation for these symptoms and are they connected in any way. Oh I also am not having a great transition into meno and have been having treatment for GAD if relevant

I understand as they can be hard on our system..they kill off the bacteria we need....and cause yeast infections, BUT, we do need to use them to get rid of such infections like H,Pylori which is a really strong bacteria too...and will make u sicker than the antibiotics.

Good luck at the drs and let us know what she says

Thanks for the advice - I am seeing her again next week so I will ask.
Antibiotics usually upset my system for about 6 weeks after I have taken them so I really dont
like taking them anyway.

Hi...the symptoms can be similar and most likely y the drs r looking at all 3.

H.Pylori can be a stubborn infection to get rid of and can take a few rounds of antibiotics to get rid of...if in case u also have a yeast issue, ask ur Dr about taking DIFLUCAN to get rid of the yeast ( candesis)....and u may also want to ask about the use of a pro biotic after u have gotten rid of the H,Pylori...as the antibiotics kiil off all bacteria, even the good ones we need....

Good Luck

Hmm Had to have several tests at Doctors due to the increasing unpleasantness and utter diversity of my soooooooo many symptoms. Turns out that I may have Celiac disease or an infection such as H Pylori/Candida - still awaiting results. Does anyone know if H Pylori or Candida can mimic symptoms of Celiac?

Have found it very challenging to eat at all over the past 5/6 weeks and have lost weight (only weighed 112 lbs wet thru!!!) and have felt absolutely dreadful. On the plus side, I have been motivated to keep a food diary and therefore have been more able to spot symptoms which may have been caused by what I have eaten.

Does anyone out there suffer from Celiac and willing to chat or can post any advice.?
Thanks

Sorry for not being very clear. I do normally eliminate every day but not usually more than once per day. The BM's at the mo are very loose and unformed, in what I think, are medium amounts. Over the past couple of days they have been quite smelly (as have my bottom burps) and have obvious pieces of partially digested food in them. Yes, think my fibre intake is ok, I always have flax seed in my porridge and have at least 5 fruits and veggies per day.

Hi...it could be IBS...how many times to u eliminate and is it a large amount?

U should be going on a daily basis and could be part of the reason u r having all these problems....

Do u eat fiber rich foods?

Hi - here's an update on what I have been taking/trying over the past two weeks.

Trying to see if there is any link between what I eat and any symptoms.

Still have loads of wind (up and down) - no constipation exactly the opposite now and sometimes more than one BM per day (not normal for me). I feel much better after emptying my bowel.

Low back/bottom issue comes and goes but when it is around still can't lie down comfortably so don't get much sleep at all - either due to reflux or this discomfort. Insomnia is making me very tired in the day - sometimes able to sleep in the early evening but if I do, have difficulty sleeping at night. Also wake up anxious which seems to get better after a BM

Just got some digestive enzymes which I take after food and this really does seem to help with the reflux and burning stomach. But this wears off after a few hours, so symptoms return. This is mostly only a problem at night as otherwise I would just eat again and have more enzymes.

Been trying out Aloe Vera Juice on an evening before bed - don't yet know if this is helping, only been trying this for a few days. Trying to have prebiotic and probiotic drink daily - seem to be worse when taking these. Do I need to keep trying?

Does all this sound like IBS? Am I doing the right things or does it all just calm down by itself (when I get less stressed about it???)

Any observations and suggestions gratefully received (and tried)  :-) Thanks

U r welcome....I have had many of the same issues so I understand how u feel.Talk with ur dr about trying Miralax to help ease into going regularly and increase ur fiber...it should help.

I was on the Miralax and no longer need it...I do experience a change with weather temp fluctuations.

Post an update on how u r doing : )

Selma - I have not been formally diagnosed with IBS but I do now recognise that I do have these flare ups with gut problems -often after I have been ill with something else such as a viral infection and also when I am upset or stressed. This most recent time when I have been much more aware of having the reflux over a period of two weeks or so, I think that a lot of the symptoms seem to be consistent with IBS. The pressure and discomfort when I sit or lie down I thought maybe was also connected to the bowel problems but I also remembered that I had sciatic pain years ago and sometimes the pain down the hip area was very similiar this. I am trying to eat well and frequently, dont eat red meat often, mostly chicken and fish. Just feel like a menopausal wreck!!!
I appreciate your help and suggestions very much, thank you.

Hi....I want to ask about ur back pain as the others seem to have addressed all the other symptoms for u already.
May I ask if u have IBS?...this can sometimes go hand in hand with GERD and can cause a flare up......the inflammation from this can affect ur sciatic nerve as well.

make sure ur diet is complete with all the necessary fiber, protiens and good carbs.

It sounds partly like acid reflux to me. Aloe juice before bed is good to neutralize stomach acid and gas. If you still have stomach pains from the gas and/or having reflux, try charcoal capsules from the health/ vitamin shop. Charcoal will soak up the acid and gas like a sponge, and it is natural.  Just don't take with medicine as it will soak that up too.

Thanks for your reply. No haven't had ultrasound on gallbladder. Had a TV scan and kidney scan - result of which was a thickened endometrium of 11.5 and small fibroids. Kidneys ok. Think ur right about the sciatic nerve tho - I have had trouble with this quite a long time ago and feels similar now I think about it. I am happy to give further information but don't know what to give you that is relevant.

Hello!
Have you had an ultrasound of your gallbladder? Many of your symptoms fit cholecystitis (an inflamed gall bladder or gall stones) as well as a hiatal hernia. I cannot say about your lower back discomfort, -perhaps a sciatic nerve issue, but I'd need more information to be confident with that answer...
