GERD and Thuds???

My heart is fine, event monitor showed that these thuds/squeezes in my middle chest are not my heart, it makes me wonder if it's my esophagus, I do have acid reflux and these symptoms are triggered by eating, sometimes I vomit to relieve the sensation, I have come near fainting from fear of these feelings.

If it's not my heart, is it my reflux causing this?  Sometimes they are so hard they make me cough and hit my chest to relieve it.

Any answers I really would like, thank you all so much!!

Thanks all.  Fortunately I was hooked up to the event monitor for 3 continual weeks and it caught the huge thuds, caught as in my heart just kept going as normal, not even a small PVC.  So that leads me to believe it must be stomach related, I had a biopsy done about 2 yrs ago and it was fine, but esophagus was red and sore.  On a new med now for reflux, seems to be working but sometimes still I get that thud after eating.  If I stay on a liquid only day, no reflux and no thuds at all.
At SelmaS, what could post nasal drip do to cause thos sensation?

Thanks again!

In addition to the good information given by selma and smiley, I'd suggest you might be experiencing a problem with motility (swallowing).   I'd suggest you ask your doctor for an Endoscopy study as well as a Motility study.

Hi there,

I have been told by a Cardiologist and GI doc that acid reflux can irritate the vagus nerve and bring episodes of PAC's and PVC's on.  PAC's and PVC's are extra heartbeats - even though we experience them as missed beats and "heart hickups" and this can be the "thubs" that you describe.

Even though it is very irritating, it is absolutely harmless and very common.  Sometimes even event-monitors can miss this as it disappear and reappears whenever and normally when we're not connected to monitors.  ugh, Murphy's law.

You can also add a banana a day, to your diet.  Banana's are full of Potassium and will help to normalize heart-rhythm.

All the best,

Hi...it is possible for GERD/ acid reflux to cause breathing issues when a hiatial hernia is present or the vagus nerve is compressed....

Since ur Dr checked ur heart, did u ask what else it might be, did they do ne other testing?

I would also suggest u get checked for post nasal drip....

And do try a GI and a ENT to see which can help.

Avoid foods that trigger ne issues u r having to help u feel better....see the help pages...scroll to the bottom of this page.
