GERD excessive burping (3 times per minute), but no heartburn

Hello,

I have a very annoying health issue that makes it difficult to concentrate and it seriously reduces my life quality. I am a 25 year old man, about 189 cm- weight about 97 kg.

The main problem is that I burp about 3 times every minute during the whole day. It doesn’t always happen at that frequency, and not every day. It is mainly a period phenomenon which can be present for weeks at some time, while completely gone for 1-2 weeks at other times. The burps are not loud typically “food” burps. I rather call them “inside burps” in lack of a better name as they are soft, quiet belches that often need some help, i.e. me leaning forward a bit, in order to be released. Whenever I have them, there are basically three efficient ways to temporarily prevent them from occurring: eating/drinking, exercising and lying down on my back. However, a while after performing any of these activities, the burping reappears. I had a gastroscopy in 2007 during which they found that I have an issue with the closing mechanism between the stomach and the esophagus which causes acids from the stomach to enter the esophagus. This is called Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and my doctor says that this is the cause of the problem. However, I do not have the most common symptom – which seems to be heartburn – and the pills that I get from my doctor seem to have close to zero effect.

If you have any experience with a similar problem, please share your experience. This is an extremely annoying problem, especially for someone aiming at a desk job. I am worried that I will have to put up with this for the rest of my life.
