The H2 blocker I take is pepcid....all on my Drs orders not on my own,
Flycaster makes a great point...and I did mention to discuss all concerns with your Dr too....and you deff need to do that and more testing may alive your fears.
You have two valves that keep acid out of the esophagus, both are called LES. It might be that the lower one is allowing acid to burn you, maybe both. The only way you can determine if you have a serious issue is have an Endoscopy. It will examine the lining of the esophagus and determine if there is cell change. I have what is called Barrett's Esophagus, which means the esophagus cells are becoming more like intestinal cells, and can become malignant. That said it takes a number of years to change.
In my case, I didn't have typical symptoms, but I've been diabetic for years, and have nerve damage. My teeth started to turn black (I fixed them!) and also my vocal chords burned which affected my voice.
My point is that maybe more than meds are involved. I hope you consider having an endoscopy test to both put your mind at ease and also determine just what is happening. Keep us informed.
selmaS,
---Thanks, thanks for the response. Do you recall which H2 blocker? Have you ever taken Pantoprozole? It is probably the only PPI not tried in the past.
Hi and welcome to the GERD forum,
Try talking to your Dr these meds can stop working....I was on a PPI and they stopped working for me.....after a talk with my Dr I was switched to a H2 blocker.....so do look into other options as there are a few.
