GERD throat pain returns while on PPI

Diagnosed with GERD several years ago.  Symptoms limited to the throat -- most severe pain and excess saliva/acid in mouth and throat.  Omeprazole helped for about two years.  Suddenly, four weeks ago it seemed to stop working. Constant throat pain for four weeks, despite the medication.  The pain is mostly on one side of the throat, as if there is an ulcer there which is being irritated by the acid.  In my case, this happens when upright, not when reclining.  I am told that this is common with LPR (silent reflux).  My concern is that the med is having no effect and the pain persists.  Afraid that this could be throat cancer.

You have two valves that keep acid out of the esophagus, both are called LES.  It might be that the lower one is allowing acid to burn you, maybe both.  The only way you can determine if you have a serious issue is have an Endoscopy.  It will examine the lining of the esophagus and determine if there is cell change.  I have what is called Barrett's Esophagus, which means the esophagus cells are becoming more like intestinal cells, and can become malignant.  That said it takes a number of years to change.
In my case, I didn't have typical symptoms, but I've been diabetic for years, and have nerve damage.  My teeth started to turn black (I fixed them!) and also my vocal chords burned which affected my voice.
My point is that maybe more than meds are involved.  I hope you consider having an endoscopy test to both put your mind at ease and also determine just what is happening.  Keep us informed.

selmaS,
---Thanks, thanks for the response.  Do you recall which H2 blocker?  Have you ever taken Pantoprozole?  It is probably the only PPI not tried in the past.
