Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy useful?

Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy useful?

I saw the doctor a few times and he put me as GERD and aeroflagia and prescribed Pariet 20 mg (rabeprazole sodium) and I am bit better but just lying on my side in bed (carpet or futon is no problem) is enough to bring up the gases. I had intense noticeable heart beats sometimes before treatment- now lying on my side gives me noticeable heart beats but its not really unpleasant. I used to get severe bloating of the intesines (felt too low to be stomach) but generally no bloating except last night after a bit of a physical argument with my wife.  He scheduled an endoscopy and said if I feel better then I could cancel it. Well I feel a bit better but is it the medicine or it is just me trying sleeping on my back and eating slower. So should I cancel or postpone (not too difficult here) the endoscopy? I expect the endoscopy will be uncomfortable for me. I'm an Australian living in Japan with a working Japanese wife so she only has 2 days   plus public holidays off a week to help me with doctors if need be.

Endoscope is usually not uncomfortable at all as they put you into a light sleep.   You are likely better because of all those--medicine, eating slowly, etc.    I put off endoscopy for a long time but was glad when I finally did it as it was easy and reassuring that I hadn't damaged myself yet.  But typically you would have an ongoing problem before you have endoscopy.

I decided to have the endoscope-- was a bit unfortable as they gave me an oral anaethetic and an injection and I was conscious the whole time indeed the pain relief stopped before the procedure ended with natural discomfort. Some times in procedure I got pain in the ears fortunately that didn't last. Basically my insides are inflammation free except for a few tiny areas (blood and lines)  so he has diagnosed me as NERD. I was having an ongoing problem and also I got the recorded severe side-effect of the Parinet (severe chills for which heating baths or showers gave me only brief relief from the shivering).
