Gerd Surgery with gallbladder removal

Hi ya'll Im new to this forum Im having surgery in a few weeks a fundoplication surgery along with gallbladder removal. Can anyone tell me what to expect after surgery?  im a nurse tech and do alot of lifting, bending, etc.x    Ive had this problem for years and have went to the Er several times thinking I was having a heart attack. Im 43 yr old female. Found out in scoping that I have xlarge hiatial hernia along with severe reflux that sometimes causes me to vomit acids in my sleep alot of times getting choked on it.  I have begun to lose weight (so far just 12 pounds in 2 months) because the heartburn is so bad it makes me sick.  Ive tried all the meds with little relief, now taking kapidex twice daily. Anyone with any info please reply as Ive read alot of horror stories. Also if you had the surgery did you have a ng tube when coming out of surgery??

Is your Nissen still working well?  My TIF failed and the staples came loose.  Now my doctor wants me to try the Nissen, but I am reluctant to have another surgery.

Was wondering if you ever had the surgery? And if so did you find a doctor in Houston Texas to do it? Thinking about having the surgery done.

Since you have decided that surgery is an option, my advice is to find a very good and experienced Doctor who specializes in laproscopic procedures.

In 1997, I had Nissan surgery performed by a great surgeon I found here in Houston,Texas. He is an expert in this particular operation, with a patient success rate of over 94 percent, 10 years post-op.  My doctor doesn't believe in the "flexible" or loosely wrapped fundis pocedure. I had the tightly wrapped version with excellent results. Over the past 12 years, I have never had heart burn or acid refiix. My stomach works better than ever in that I can now drink orance juice and tomato juice without any irritation. Additionally, I am able to "burp" and vomit.  Nissan surgery was the best decision of my life.  My acid reflex disease is "cured" and I don't have and scars from "open surgery."

On the down side, because mine was a "tight wrap", I could not get solid food of any decent size to pass freely form my mouth into my stomach for 4 months post-op;  until the swelling from the surgery subsided. During the healing process, I had two trips to the hospital emergency room to "clear" soft food that got stuck in my esophagus.
However, as far as I am concerned, the "price" I paid during the 4 months of healing from the Nissan surgery was not bad at all considering the end result.

Also on the plus side, laproscopic surgery allowed me to leave the hospital after 4 days. I was sore but able to bend and lift small objects.  I had 5 small incision sites the size of a dime, and had to sleep on my stomach for about two months for comfort.

I have read numerous posts of people who have had to have their "flexible Nissan" redone because it changed position or became undone after a peroid of time. Also, gas and bloating are known to be more of a problem with the "flexible Nissan" surgery.

I would not expect you to need any tubes after your surgery. You may want some pain pills, however.
