Help with GERD

by bradab, May 26, 2009 06:57PM
Around the age of 25 I woke up one night and had a burning sensation in my stomach and esophagus, I went to the Dr he put me on pantaloc. The medication controlled it for awhile then one night I got the same problems so I went to a Dr again, he set up an appointment for a specialist. While waiting for the specialist I started sleeping in a chair to keep me elevated and stopped sleeping in a bed. I also made note of what triggered the problems. Eating meat was a major problem. I had a scope put down my throat and was told everything looked ok there was no damage. I had the option of getting an operation or doubling the dose of pantaloc. I did not like any of the options.

Right now I am still sleeping in a chair and I am vegetarian because any type of meat, even lean chicken for example causes heartburn, it feels like it just stays in my stomach for a long time. I have also tried taking digestive enzymes, I have tried 4 different brands in the past and they cause major heartburn. I'm not sure if this is helpful but I feel full in the morning all the time, I don't eat breakfast because I always feel like i've already eaten when I really have not.

I'd like to know why eating meat does this to me and are there any other options to cure me.  Right now I can control it by taking 40 mg pantaloc, not eating alot of anything, not eating meat and sleeping sitting up in a chair but it ruins my quality of life.

I was in your situation one year ago! I do not recognize 'pantaloc' is it one of the many proton pump inhibitors? If it is, it turns off the acid pumps. You can not digest meat with no acid in the stomach, it sits in your intestines for way too long. The digestive process is slowed to a sceaching halt and you feel bloated like a dead animal on the side of the road!  And other foods are also hard to digest. At least you are looking at alternatives to the doctors that cant seem to fix this.

I backed off on the acid drugs and alkalyzed my diet. this took three months. Took orange peel extract (d-limonene). Put bed up on blocks 8 inches / at angle. You may have bad bacteria caused by lack of acid from the drugs causing the full bloated feeling, noni tablits can help this. It took me six months to eat red meat again. Once it gets under control maybe you can try diferent enzymes - thats where I'm at now. Hope this helps.
