Help!

Okay, I'm 16 and I have been having very bad acid reflux. I feel like I can't breathe, pressure in my chest, burning and feeling like I need to throw up. I also have a rough time burping. I went to the doctor and he checked my blood, took x rays and even did a chest thing, everything was fine, my heart was normal and my lungs were.

Everyday I have these issues even when I don't eat anything. I been eating on tums and it doesn't seem to help, I've even tried making myself throw up! I'm getting so tired of feeling like this and I just want something that will help. I can't even walk down the road because I have to catch my breath.

Any solutions the might help? Any over the counter meds that I can take? I heard Zantac is good but haven't tried it. If you have any solutions please let me know.

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

U need to eat and with reflux Drs suggest we eat 4 to 5 small meals a day..do not skip meals as ur body will produce acid to break down the food in preparation and if u do not eat, u still have the acid...and just taking meds is not the answer...try eating foods that do not trigger ur reflux...keep a journal...avoid the typical foods that will cause an issue greasy, spicy, foods, acidic foods. carbonated bevs...so sodas, even caffeinated teas and coffee is not good...next lifestyle, if u smoke this will add to this, so cut back until u quit altogether....and try to avoid stress...as a teen that is not always easy ...so find ways to relax....a soak in the tub with soft music playing...

See a GI Dr to see ig u have a hiatal hernia or something along that line that may be contributing to how u feel and look to family history for some insights...meds alone are not the answer, so do look to ur diet, do not skip meals..just eat smaller ones, but health foods...

Keep us posted on ur progress.
