I don't fall into the catagory to get this - how come I have it??

Hi All,
I've been told I have acid reflux after losing my voice. I have had NO signs of it but the voice loss. I seem to do everything right.  I already sleep elevated (to prevent puffy eyes), am a vegetarian so i don't eat meat or high acid foods; I don' t eat processed or fried foods. I like to have fresh melon and bananas for breakfast and eat a large salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar 3 to 4 nights a week with a peice of whole grain baguette and I never have ANYTHING 3 hrs before bed.

Could it be the multi vitamins that I take with my meals causing the problem?? I've been taking supplements for years and never had a problem with my voice...

OR Can it be caused by something else that could be going on in my stomach that I need to investigate?

Also I was told banana's are good as they help prevent acid reflux is this true? Thanks all for any info!!!!

You are a star Selma! Thank you! I actually may sleep a little less stressed tonight because of your words.
I've been so stressed thinking I will never heal. I'll try to be a bit more patient! Thank you again - and God bless!

Hi...ur meds are a PPI and will help heal the damage as well as stop the acid production.

I keep bitters in the house and I know how well ginger helps the stomach so it sounds like u have all u need.

Keep me posted

for the reflux they gave me pantoprazole. My holistic doctor told me to add something called Pyloricil (contains Mastic gums/bismuth/gingerroot)  and also to take a capsule of Burdock Root.  For the allergy Astalin nasal spray and for inflamation Limbrel. Oh and Mucinex

HI...not sure about the voice...I guess it depends on u....since u r a singer u may know of more things u can do besides rest ur voice to help.

Post nasal drip can be a cause.....and like I said even tho u r not aware u may have something in ur diet that is affecting u....may I ask what meds r u on for the reflux??

Some help u heal.....plus it can take a few weeks for the meds to show signs they r working.

thanks so much Selma. I'm freaking out about this as I am a professional singer and I've had a husky voice suddenly about 6 weeks ago. I thought it was allergies. When it didn't clear I saw an ENT who said it was a combo of allergies and bad acid reflux. I never had acid reflux before and don't don't have a diet as I said that would cause it. Perhaps I need to look into as you say other causes like a hernia that I may be unaware of. Also maybe it was the post nasel drip that caused the issue.
However I'm concerned that I've been on meds now for the acid and allergy and I still have a husky voice. do you know how long it takes for the voice to become normal? I'm not due to see the doctor for another 2 weeks again. I've had to stop teaching voice and cancel all singing engagement for the next 3 months due to this and not knowing when it will heal. I'm scared to say the least! Thanks so much for reaching out.

Silent reflux will not present as symptoms.....post nasal drip can cause reflux and so can a hiatal hernia.....

Watching the diet will help lessen the acid production along with meds......

So I am not sure which dr dx u ....was it a GI dr??....U may want to be checked for a hiatal hernia......and ENT can also check u for post nasal drip or ur PCP can detect that also.

Please post an update
