GERD (ACID REFLUX) EXPERT FORUM
If one has Acid Reflux can you eat differently

If one has Acid Reflux can you eat differently

I have Cough Asthma which means I have these horrible coughing spells that won't stop without my inhaler.  My problem is I have been using by inhaler (ADVAIR Diskus) and it isn't helping much.  This happened to me last year.  My doctor said I had Acid Reflux and gave me "Ranitidine Tab 500 mg twice a day.  Last year I took them not believing that I had Acid Reflux and I was told they would work immediately - They did not - not even after one month so I quit taking them.  I did  get better in time with my inhaler.   Now I am having the coughing  spells all day for the last 2 or so weeks.  I thought I would try the Tanitidine again (I am using my old perscription from 10/18/2007 - HOPE THEY ARE GOOD.

Anyway is there some special way of eating if you have Acid Reflux?  I have never had Heartburn!

Thank You

Hi,
Some of the measures you need to take to avoid reflux episodes are -
1. Small frequent meals
2. Going to bed 2- 3 hours after food
3. Avoiding bed time snacks
4. Avoiding smoking and alcohol
5. Avoiding cola, citrus drinks, carbonated drinks, tea, coffee, spicy food

If the cough is more in the night after lying down you may have to elevate the head end of the cot.
Weight reduction has to be done if you are obese.
