Irregular EG junction

In 2005, I developed "steakhouse syndrome" where I felt like I had a lump in my throat on the right side upon swallowing. I had fluoroscopy and was diagnosed with a small hiatal hernia and a Schatzki's ring. I was placed on antacids and it got better. In 2008, I went to  GI doc and had an endoscopy with dilation. After this, the pathology revealed and irregular EG junction consistent with GERD. The doctor did not see a distinct ring at the junction just narrowing. After the procedure, things were better. I am doing ok, I just feel that narrowed feeling again especially if I swallow food that the pieces are somewhat too big such as a small chunk of bread.All else was normal with the tests results. Will chronic GERD cause this? Would antacids help this or cause a rebound effect increasing acid when off the meds? I am 42 and I am scared if this will end up turning into something bad. I am scheduling a revisit with the doctor. Any input appreciated.

Hi Jill and welcome to the GERD forum.

I too have a hiatal hernia and get the same symptoms...I had a barium swollow study....inconclusive results.
I also have a thyroid condidion with nodules......so I would deff suggest u ask ur dr to check ur thyroid.....note that running normal labs will not show some thyroid conditions....ask for a US of the thyroid.
