Is my symptoms correspond to GERD or Gastritis?

I am a 25 year ole male. Two weeks back, it started with severe stomach upset and stomach pain. I visited medical practitioner, and he told me it is IBS. I took few medicines based on his prescription. I could not feel any better after completing the medicine course. In fact, it became worse.

Let me explain my symptoms. Every morning, I am waking up with blown up stomach and pain. I feel better after finishing the morning duties. Though I am not getting any dark stools, I am feeling some difference between what it has been usually and what it is now. Once I am done with the morning breakfast, my stomach slowly starts blowing up. The condition gets wore as the day progresses. After the lunch, my stomach is almost full and I start expelling gas through the anus. I feel somewhat relieved after this. This become worse after dinner, and after some gas is passed through the anus, I feel ok.

Apart from this, I am having sore throat and frequent cough. I developed cough after suffering from recent flu, a month back. I thought it is due to cold, and visited ENT specialist. He did probe analysis and ruled out any bacterial/viral throat infection. He attributed this symptoms to my GERD. But, I am having sore throat/cough even before my GERD problem. I am not sure if my GERD is the reason for sore throat/cough.

Then, I visited Gastro and explained this symtoms. She told I have GERD and prescribed PPI for 3 months. It has been 4 days I have been taking PPI and not much relief.

I am confused whether I have GERD or Gastritis. All of a sudden, I developed GERD. What are the causes of GERD? Is this a symptom of some other disease? Can someone please explain me? Is there any suggestions you can provide me to get relief from this problem?

Hi...I do know that acid reflux can errode the enamel on the teeth and cause them to be sensitive.

I am not sure about ur jaw......I would ask ur dr to check u for TMJD if it persists.

There is a toothpaste to help with sesitive teeth...again ur pharmacist should be able to help u find the brand best for u.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. Also, I am experiencing pain in the jaws and teeth, and sensitiveness in the front teeth. Is this also an effect of GERD? Can you please advise me?

HI and welcome to the GERD forum.

It is possible to have silent reflux......so the sore throat prior to the actual other issues could have been ur sign of things to come.

The best way to understand all this is to read thru the health pages here on MedHelp...u can access these pages thru the icon just above the recent activities on the right of the screen or thru the links in the welcome message at the top of this forum.

Please keep us posted on ur progress
